I don’t really buy into the whole Valentine’s Day thing – all the pressure to buy $4 greeting cards and overpriced five course dinners and other useless stuff, so today the huz and I did something that was more our style. With that said, the huz did surprise me with some roses and such when I got home from work tonight. ![]()
Yeah, this guy.
Tonight we cooked dinner. Notice I said WE! We rarely, rarely step foot in the kitchen together cook anything together, so in light of the holiday, I thought it’d be a fun idea. The huz was in charge of the pot stickers (frozen and then pan-fried) and was my soup-making assistant. We were both excited to try this recipe I found for Asian Rice Noodle and Shrimp Soup from Health.com. It had lots of yummy and healthy ingredients:
- shitake mushrooms
- scallions
- shredded carrot
- ginger root
- lime juice
- vegetable broth
- thin rice noodles
- toasted sesame oil (a favorite of mine!)
- soy sauce
- shrimpies!!
- cilantro (a meager squirt from the tube since we both tolerate it only in small doses)
After tasting the soup, we both amped up the heat level by adding a healthy few dashes of Sriracha.

The soup was served atop a bed of thin rice noodles. It was yummy and a nice change from my typical soup recipes.

Then we definitely spent a large chunk of our evening watching Free Willy on Instant Netflix. ![]()
Happy Valentine’s Day!
That soup looks amazing. Also, sriracha is like a gift from the gods. It makes everything more delicious.
Yes, I have recently discovered that I love it!! So much better than Frank’s, I think.
This=tomorrow’s dinner
