Yesterday was the huz’s birthday. We went to Chop House to take advantage of their birthday special. I was a bit camera-shy in this upscale restaurant, plus the dim, yet warm lighting wasn’t very conducive to food photography, and so, as evidenced above, my pictures are pretty low-quality. Unlike the delicious food! Here is what we ordered:
- Smoked North Atlantic Salmon appetizer – Served with crackers, chives, shallots, capers, and herbed cream cheese.
- Swordfish Steak – my entrée; I ordered it blackened.
- Cowboy Steak (20-22 oz) – the husband’s entrée. The menu states, “Our steaks are USDA prime. Only 2% of all beef raised is graded “Prime” for its superior marbling and texture. All of our prime meat is aged 28 – 34 days.”
- Grilled Asparagus with Parmesan – side dish that we split
- Baked Three Cheese Macaroni with Roasted Poblano Chiles – side we split.
Our service was good, but honestly not the very best. We dined on a Monday evening, and there were very few other diners in the restaurant (like literally, maybe three other tables of diners), and the host acted flustered when we stated that we did not have a reservation, and took several minutes to assess where to seat us. We were shown to a table that was literally 10 inches away from another table of two diners in a room that was otherwise empty, with at least fifteen other empty tables that wouldn’t have been so close to the other diners. I politely asked if there were any other tables with more room, since it was quite cramped, and again, the person seating us acted a bit flustered, and begrudgingly seated us at another table with adequate “breathing space.”
So already before we’ve even glanced over the menus, I’m already feeling unwelcome and out of place, so that wasn’t the best start to the meal. Overall, the general attitude of the Chop House staff had just the vaguest sense of condescension and snootiness, which left me feeling not quite at ease. Our servers were kinder than the hosting staff, however.
Also, even at the end of our meal, there were still very few other diners in the restaurant, so I still did not understand why the hosting staff acted so flustered and made us feel so awkward with regards to seating us.
All in all the food was good; very good, even. However, it honestly didn’t blow my mind and I wouldn’t return again and pay full price for a meal. But with 50% off our bill for the huz’s birthday, we were satisfied!
For dessert we got some treats at Cupcake Station. Can’t tell you how much I love this place.
Tonight when I got home from work I had a package from Amazon waiting for me:
I bought the 30 Day Shred DVD. This video has been On Demand on Comcast but I noticed that it was only going to be around until February 21, so I decided to just order it off Amazon since I liked the workout so much. I did it three times last week (using water bottles as hand weights), and tonight again, finally using (PURPLE) 3 lb hand weights. Phew I’m going to be sore tomorrow.
My date with Jillian happened after consuming dinner. I made a Smoked Tuna Salad inspired by THIS recipe (it’s filled with an avocado dressing, tuna in a smoky balsamic dressing, and topped with granny smith apple slices and walnuts), along with a side of Southwestern Bean Salad (from a can – so sue me.)
