Happy Weekend! I was quite ready for it this week, let me tell you. Friday afternoon, the only thing on my mind was red wine.
When the huz suggested Seva, one of Ann Arbor’s vegetarian restaurants, for dinner, there was no way I could say no! (I’d suggested it the last couple weeks, but we had ended up going to other places instead.) Though this was only my third time there, I am a huge fan of Seva. (You can read about the first time I went and achieved nirvana HERE, and about our second time by clicking HERE!).
I started out by fulfilling my desire for wine by ordering a red wine flight with these three vinos:
- Domaine du Vieux Chêne (France; 2007)
- Monte la Sarda Garnacha (Spain; 2009)
- Leese-Fitch Pinot Noir (California; 2008)
The Pinot Noir was the earthiest and my favorite of the three.
To start, we split an order of Seva’s AMAZING nachos, with house-made chips and house-made salsa – both of which are awesome.
For my entrée, I ordered the Grilled Pesto Pizza Sandwich, described in the menu as, “Smoked mozzarella, parmesan, tomatoes, fresh basil-cashew pesto and balsamic herb vinaigrette grilled on Avalon seeded rye.” In place of fries, I ordered a side salad with a rice vinegar dressing. It was nice and light and fresh after pounding all those nachos as an appetizer – just what I wanted.
A close-up of my sammie. Holy noms, this was phenomenal. The bread was super-crisp with a nice buttery crunch, the cheese was so utterly melty and delicious, and the basil-y pesto was beyond words (though I admit I didn’t really detect the presence of cashews.) Sooo amazing. I already have plans to recreate this at home this week!
The huz ordered one of the weekly specials, Pad Thai. You might remember that last night I also made Pad Thai. I asked him whose Pad Thai was better – mine or Seva’s – and he said mine. Suckah.
I had a bite and it was pretty standard. Not super flavorful, but a good meal. Love the abundance of peanuts!
For dessert, ordered a glass of the Leese-Fitch Pinot Noir, and we split a piece of Peanut Butter Cheesecake with peanut-graham cracker crust and chocolate ganache on top. Obviously it was foodgasmic. Obviously!
After dinner, we ended up going to the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase (which coincidentally, is in the lower level of the building in which Seva resides), where we saw headliner Peter Berman perform stand-up. Might’ve had a little more Merlot too. It was a good time – Peter Berman was HI-larious, and also a U-M grad himself. He kind of looks like a Phil Collins’ and Thom Yorke’s love child, no?
