Just A Day At The Beach

A day at the beach is good for the soul.

So is bacon. Bacon is also good for the soul.P1080501

Saturday morning, beginning our first full day at the cabin, we had a giant spread of breakfast foods – my favorite!

Bacon, potatoes, toast, eggs, zuke bread, fruit. Head spinning yet!? Plus coffee + OJ.P1080502

After breakfast we packed our bags and headed to the beach.

And wow, we lucked out! North Higgins Lake State Park was beautiful. Nice long, wide, clean sandy beach, crystal clear water, lots of shade, ample picnic tables, and grills.

Tom having the time of his life, indulging his inner child. I built and decorated the sand castle, while he dug the moat.

My mom, clearly having the time of her life.P1080510

We lucked out on the weather too! Sunny and warm, but not insanely hot like last week. I wore my SPF 50, for sure!P1080521P1080523

As if I hadn’t already eaten enough for the day, we had a small lunch of grilled brats, from Falmouth. You know my favorite brats are the hot and spicy ones, so it should be no surprise that I went for the jalapeño brats! These definitely rival Biercamp’s brats. Plus I had about six more handfuls of chippies.

It was so nice to laze around for several hours.P1080526P1080528

On the way back to the cabin, we drove by the cottage my mom grew up visiting every summer as a kid, which was formerly owned by the family. Neat, huh?

  3. Higgins makes me weepy. Good weepy. A critter is eating my tomatoes! Grabs one off the vine, takes a bite, tosses it. I’ve even built a fence out of chicken wire to keep it out. Gettin’ in somewhere. I’m just incensed! NOTHING better than a BLT…must be slathered with Hellman’s Real Mayonnaise. Your plants are yielding a bounty! Good for you.

  4. Oh my gosh!! The red/orange/yellow sailboat you captured in these photos is my family’s!! We love Higgins Lake and my extended family has been camping there every July for 30+ years! Glad you were able to enjoy it too – it’s definitely good for the soul! ☺️
