The World Goes On

Well hello! Today was the first day of my 11 day vacation for the holidays! Splendid!

Yesterday evening was my work holiday party, kindly hosted by our director at his house and catered by Romanoff’s Catering. The food was awesome, as always!

Beef Tenderloin and Dill Salmon:

Lots of delicious sides, including a Blue Cheese, Pear, and Pecan Salad; Corn, Shrimp and Avocado Salad; German Potato Salad; and a Crunchy Asian Salad. I tasted them all and enjoyed each of them, with my favorites being the Crunchy Asian Salad and the German Potato Salad. On the TV show Top Chef, it seems like it’s fairly common for the contestants to screw up similar potato dishes for a crowd, so I appreciate the skill that goes into preparing such a dish and making sure the potatoes are evenly cooked through, but not overcooked – these were great.

Aaaand, call me unsophisticated, by MY two favorite things were these bangin’ chicken tenders and macaroni and cheese! Nom. Simple dishes executed perfectly.

For dessert, there was a spread of apple pie pastries, brownies, and (not shown), a fruit cobbler.

Beer and wine were also enjoyed.

Photo ops by the Christmas tree. We don’t have one at our house!

Then Santa paid the party a visit!

Santa was quite the crowd pleaser for kids and adults, alike!image (26)-2

Santa bringing the house down.

At one point, not even realizing what he was saying (or so he claims), Santa asked his elves to “hold his sack” [of gifts], which meant nothing much to the kiddies, but elicited much laughter from the adults. ..Santa!

Oh, and Honduran liquor, courtesy of our own little Honduran, Gabi. Gifiti!

It was actually kind of good – tasted like warm, Christmas-y spices and was very smooth.12212012_cpfrc holiday party

After the nice party at Dr. Carnivore’s, Five Star SexiMexy and I went to Main Street. We started out at The Bar at 327 Braun Court – our first visit here. We first accidentally walked into the private party being hosted downstairs, before we figured out that we needed to head upstairs to the bar, where we snagged two seats at the bar.

The vibe here was seriously awesome. I could totally see myself spending hours here. The Bar resides in a house converted into a bar, and has a very warm, intimate, casual yet lively atmosphere that we were digging.

Cocktails are a bit on the pricy side, but they are so good that one could easily sit and nurse one for quite a while and have a lovely time.

Five Star SexiMexy and I both ordered the “Royal Pain,” made with Jim Beam Rye, Maraschino, Lemon Juice, Lime Juice, Raw Egg While, Angostura Bitters, and Agave Syrup.”

This drink was seriously delightful. One of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. Serious.

I was also really impressed with the friendly, down-to-earth staff. There was a drunk guy in a bit of a stupor sitting at the end of the bar who approached Five Star from behind and started trying to talk to her, and I was so incredibly impressed when The Bar staff, like WHITE ON RICE, went straight over to the guy and escorted him out of the bar. It happened SO quickly I barely even knew what happened, and the staff said that the guy was not at all a regular – so no worries if you visit – stupored middle-aged men are not the typical clientele, from what we heard!

Despite all the food we enjoyed at our holiday party, Five Star SexiMexy and I wanted to make sure we were properly pacing ourselves and keeping some food in our stomachs, so we split this tasty meat and cheese platter at The Bar. Yum, and generous portions!

The Bar at 327 Braun Court on Urbanspoon

All in all I absolutely loved The Bar at 327 Braun Court, located in Kerrytown, and I cannot wait to go back. The Bar is across the court from Aut Bar, and there was a giant bonfire blazing when we entered The Bar. With any luck, The Bar will become part of my regular evening stomping grounds.

Also, the world did not in fact end, so that’s good.

If the world had ended on Friday, I’d like to think that we’d have gone out with a bang.
