This past weekend commemorates MegGoesNomNom’s four year blogiversary! Which also coincides with my birthday. Yep, I started this blog the day after my birthday four years ago. And I haven’t stopped nomming since.
Here’s what I’m been nomming over the last few days, as I’ve been celebrating my birthday! I am all about birthday deals and freebies.
First up, about a week ago I redeemed my free birthday entrée at Palm Palace: mint lemonade, salad, and lamb shawarma – my fave!
How to Redeem: Sign up for Palm Palace’s e-club and you’ll receive a coupon via email for a free lunch or dinner, which can be used up to one week before or after your birthday.
The evening before my birthday, I scored my free Bleu Ribbon Burger from Red Robin.
Because we were STARVING this night, we ordered some kettle chips and dip as an app, too.
How to Redeem: Register for Red Robin Royalty and get one free Gourmet Burger or Chicken Burger the month of your birthday.
Moe’s, Godiva, and Ulta
The morning of my actual birthday I went around town and scored all these freebies!:
- CHOCOLATE: $10 off any purchase at Godiva (Truffle Flight!); plus one free truffle
- MASCARA: Free full-size item at Ulta (Calvin Klein mascara for me!)
- BURRITO: Free entrée at Moe’s! (Burrito for my birthday lunch!)
How to Redeem:
- Godiva: Sign up for Godiva’s Rewards Club to score a birthday coupon for $10 off any purchase.
- Ulta: Become an Ulta Rewards member and receive a coupon for a free full-size item (of their choice) the week of your birthday, redeemable in stores.
- Moe’s: Subscribe to Moe’s eWorld to receive a coupon via email the week of your birthday.
Before my birthday dinner, dessert freebies were on the list (dessert appetizers are totally legit on your birthday):
How to Redeem:
- Cupcake Station: Show up on your birthday, show your ID, and get a free mini cupcake!
- Cake Nouveau: Show up on your birthday, show your ID, and get two free cake truffles (or a cupcake when they are available on Friday or Saturday) [Cake Nouveau is closed Sunday and Monday, but you can redeem the day before or after their closure too.]
- Schakolad: Show up, tell them it’s your birthday, and get a piece of free chocolate!
Another favorite dessert freebie of mine is a piccolo gelato at Iorio’s – wasn’t able to fit it in on my birthday this year though!
Also went out for some beers on my birthday which weren’t free, but my dining companion paid so it was basically free. Suckah!!! (I kid, I kid.)
Chop House Birthday Dinner
One of Ann Arbor’s most popular, and probably best, birthday deals is the discount offered by Mainstreet Ventures’ restaurants. At any of their restaurants, parties of two receive 50% off their food bill, parties of three receive 33% off, and so on.
How to Redeem: Make a reservation for the day of your birthday, show up and dine, provide your ID, and receive the amazing discount off the food portion of your bill! Some of the restaurants provide free dessert too!
This was actually only my second time dining at The Chop House (though I’ve been to their Happy Hour a few times, and also have visited the connected La Dolce Vita for dessert), and the experience was such a huge improvement over last time, which was a few years back. I think last time we just started out on the wrong foot, without a reservation (hey, it was like 6:00 PM on a Tuesday night) and everything just seemed way to pretentious for us. This time, I’m not sure if it was the reservation, the fact that we are more seasoned fine diners, or staff changes, but everything was 100% better. I had such an amazing birthday meal!
Our server let me sample a couple red wines to find the perfect glass of cabernet sauvignon for me.
“Sweet and Spicy Calamari – with chili peppers, scallions, julienned carrots in a sweet and spicy chili sauce, sprinkled with candied cashews.”
This was wonderful – and HUGE! It had a kick!
Filet Mignon, 8 oz. Phenomenal. So thick. Cut like butter. Tastes like butter. I can’t believe it’s not butter. Best steak ever.
Sautéed Brussels Sprouts with Roquefort cheese and bacon lardons. Heavenly.
My man ordered the 22 oz. Cowboy Steak, naturally. Amazing.
And a one pound baked potato!? “Fluffed” tableside. Fancy!
I ordered one of my favorite desserts – the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding. Oh man, you guys, this dessert is SO GOOD. It’s like butter and caramel and banana and sin. In your mouth. That’s all I have say about that.
Actually, it’s not. I had a candle too! And a scoop of ice cream. Warm + cold = yum.
One of the best birthday meals ever! Thanks huz!
The weekend also included an adventure to Saline for hot dogs. (Post coming soon!)
And, per birthday tradition (on completely the other side of town.. road trip!), a trip to the conservatory at Matthaei Botanical Gardens.
On Sunday, my family visited and we had brunch at Weber’s. They have a really fantastic Sunday Brunch Buffet!
