This past weekend I was invited to visit a doughnut shop that just opened in Canton, Michigan called Fractured Prune. By now you probably have figured out that trying new eateries is one of my favorite things ever, so obviously this was a must!
Fractured Prune Doughnuts originated in Ocean City, Maryland and serves “always HOT cake doughnuts, all ways.” The Canton, Michigan location has 13 different glazes and 13 different toppings.
The huz and I chatted with the brother and sister team of franchise owners about their new business which has only been open for a couple of weeks now. They’re very excited about their new space and it looks great!
The shop has pretty broad hours (Mon – Sat: 7am – 9pm; Sun: 8am- 3pm), and Lori and Mark report they’ve been surprised by the bursts of business they’ve frequently been receiving in the evenings. It seems the new trend in Canton is to head out for doughnuts for dessert after dinner instead of going out for ice cream. I like it!
With donuts, coffee is a must for me and I’m happy to report that Fractured Prune offers a strong delicious brew.
Alright, now on to the donuts. That’s why you’re here, right!?
Patrons may either choose from a list of Fractured Prunes’ “Favorites,” or may create their own by mixing and matching 13 different glazes and 13 different toppings. We did a bit of each.
From the “Favorites” menu:
- Morning Buzz – mocha glaze and cookie crumbs
- Great for chocolate lovers! I expected a bit more coffee flavor in the glaze I think, but the chocolate flavor delivered. Very sweet!
- Banana Crème Pie – one of the favorite flavors of one of the franchise, Lori, so we had to try it. I wasn’t sure if I’d be a fan but this flavor was delicious! Melts in your mouth.
And we created our own, with Caramel Glaze and Sea Salt. Swoon!
And of course I saved the best for last! A visit to Fractured Prune REQUIRES that you order this donut, also known as the Bacon Bomb. This is the French Toast doughnut with BACON. The bacon is hot, crisp, and freshly cooked onsite. No bacon bits here – the real deal! This donut is coated in maple glaze and cinnamon sugar before it receives its bacon topping. Definitely my favorite!
The huz and I went halfsies on all four of those donuts and devoured them in minutes. No joke.
What really makes this place is a real treat is that all the donuts are served HOT and fresh, all the time! They are very rich, and will surely satisfy any sweet tooth. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you’re in the area, for nice people and sinfully indulgent doughnuts. Many thanks for the treats, Fractured Prune!
One word! WOW! 🙂
Indeed!
I think the salted caramel one you made sounds the best! Is there a story behind the name? When I think of donuts I don’t think of the words “fractured” or “prunes” 😛
Loved the salted caramel! According to their Facebook page, “Our shop is named for Prunella Shriek, known as “Fractured Prunella” for all the bones she would break when competing in traditionally men’s sports. She’s a local legend in Ocean City, where Fractured Prune started!”
Haha. That’s so random, but I love it!
Agreed! 🙂
