Dinners for the Last Two Weeks // August 10-23, 2014

Sunday, August 10: We had a picnic in the Arb! We picked up a sack of Maize & Blue Deli to go, set up shop on some blankets in the grass, and enjoyed the free Opera in the Arb performance.

Monday, August 11: Grilled Chicken Salad, recipe from Cooking Light. This recipe was good, but the dressing was a little sweeter than I’d prefer. I loved all the crunchy texture from the celery and walnuts, and the sweet bursts of grapes. Grilling the chicken also added a nice smoky layer of flavor to the salad.

Tuesday, August 12: Cheesy Beef Macaroni Scramble. One of our favorites, from the regular dinner rotation.

Wednesday, August 13: Huevos Rancheros with Queso Fresco. Aka, a solo dinner and I needed to use up stuff in the fridge! This was a great use of ingredients on hand.

Thursday, August 14: Pizza! From Domino’s with bacon, pineapple, and banana peppers.

Friday, August 15: Grilled Sirloin Skewers with Peaches and Peppers. Another Cooking Light recipe, of course!

Saturday, August 16: An indulgent evening with some of Ann Arbor’s finest offerings. First, dinner at Old Town. Love their burgers made with Knight’s beef.

Peppermint Ice Cream at Washtenaw Dairy. Peppermint is highly underrated.

Then we headed to the Big House for the first Open Practice under the lights! We got to see the Michigan football team out on the field practicing, along with about 25,000 other spectators. Got me pumped up for the upcoming season.

Thursday, August 21: Spicy Pork and Mustard Green Soup. Recipe from Bon Appetit. Yum! (I used kale in place of mustard greens.)

Friday, August 22: Grain Bowl with a five-grain blend, chicken, sesame ginger dressing, edamame, peppers, asparagus, mushrooms, and peppers – from Whole Foods. These super nutritious bowls are offered for $6 at my Whole Foods. What a steal! I snagged a couple cookies for dessert. I cannot resist their cookies by the pound.

Saturday, August 23: Vegetarian Dish from Damas Restaurant. This combo featuring grape leaves, tabbouli, and falafel is definitely my favorite item to order from Damas. Their hummus is delish!
